Beginnings

I was raised by Ken and Mary Lohrey in Ipswich, Queensland in Australia. My childhood was uneventful (in today's terms) in that a foot full of barbed fencing wire would have been the injury of the week. No broken bones, rarely a blood nose. We were all well fed and clothed. The roof over our heads was outstanding, built by Dad and extended over the years by all of us in turn as family numbers grew.

I was educated at the Sacred Heart private Catholic school in Booval and then at the Christian Brothers private college in Ipswich. During this period I also maintained keen interests in fishing, breeding exotic finch species, gem and precious stone collecting, radio and electronics, bushwalking and camping; and hi-fidelity sound systems.

Approaching the end of my school years I became interested in jet aircraft. With an already keen interest in electronics and communications, joining the Royal Australian Air Force was a logical progression.  I joined in early 1976.

Career

I graduated from the RAAF School of Radio (RADS) in 1977 specialising in electronics maintenance and design. After a few years working in the electronics discipline I became interested in the design and construction of equipment based upon digital devices. The logical progression that followed took me into the field of computer programming and later into computer systems engineering. I was educated as a teacher in 1989 and enjoyed teaching digital electronics and computer programming.  I served for six years as a training designer, educator and administrator. My education was later furthered through post-graduate studies in two tertiary institutions.

I achieved Novell and Microsoft Certifications in early 90's and maintain these today through continual re-certification.

After 22 years in the RAAF with postings to many bases within Australia, I retired and continued with my consulting pursuits. I purchased a proprietary limited company in 1996 naming it after my earlier consulting business.

I have worked with Queensland Health in a Project Officer role assisting to deliver infotech solutions to Qld Health facilities with Patient care the ultimate focus.

I have worked with the Sunshine Coast Grammar School assisting with InfoTech maintenance with student and teacher productivity the ultimate focus.

Hobbies and Interests

I have interests including but not limited to scuba diving, snorkelling, soccer, big bore target shooting, hydroponics and permaculture gardening, epicurean and natural cooking, gem and precious metal prospecting, mountain climbing, bush walking, coin and note collecting, societal and pure computing, hi-fi sound, medical science, herbal healing; and woodworking. I enjoy travelling and camping out, enjoying our wonderful flora and fauna wherever and whenever possible.
